Behavior:
The interface's unique character will be the result of an inviting material and an adaptive behavior.
- When at rest and alone, the material will remain silent.
- Petting the material with gentle movements will produce a series of tones corresponding to the position and pressure of each stroke. The tones will be generated harmonically from the first note so as to produce a pleasant sound.
- "Bad touch," or rough handling, of the material will produce a dissonant and unpleasant sound.
- "Heavy petting." Users will be able to coax the material into producing sustained, repeating phrases by repeating even strokes. The purring will persist longer than the user's interaction, because it likes it. It wants you to keep petting it.
- Should you ignore the interface for more than two days, it will begin to whimper in your absence. (This could be useful for shut-ins and agoraphobics as an unintrusive way to monitor their well-being)
- When you return, it will be happy to sense you and produce a joyful, excited noise.
